Letting Dad Be Dad: "Watching him grow into that [father] role made me swell with pride. I loved that he had a knack for calming our girls when they were fussy," writes one mom, reflecting on how she's come to accept the way her husband's parenting style differs from her own. On Father's Day, take time to appreciate all that your partner brings to the parenting party. This weekend, celebrate the fathers, grandpas, uncles, nannies, and other important men in your children's lives at various events and activities throughout the area. Places like the Stepping Stones Museum, Heckscher Museum of Art, and the Beardsley Zoo offer free admission to all fathers, while others host special events like Native American Father's Day, where you'll learn to create a fire without matches (!) and more. Learn how to use other sorts of tools—from cab tractors to gators—at Big Farm Equipment Day. Then, use gadgets and gizmos at the Sony Wonder Technology Lab, where you'll have your picture taken to create a card fit for your superhero dad. And just how high can your superhero fly? Find out at Bounce! Trampoline Sports' First Father's Day of Fun. Use a different sort of superhero power—brain power!— to decode clues on a Father's Day Scavenger Hunt at the DiMenna Children's History Museum. For another history lesson, learn about the Battle of Brooklyn. Fishing Fun: Try your hand at fishing during Father's Day at the Hatchery, learn about the dads of the ocean world at Cold Spring Harbor Whaling Museum, or discover how the "Ocean Daddies" care for their young. The Great Outdoors: Head to the gardens to celebrate birds in a day of music, story, nature, and family fun, and enjoy other fluttering creatures at a nature center where you can walk among live butterflies. The food trucks are back at Prospect Park/Grand Army Plaza, so head over to sample some of NYC's best treats. Plus, enjoy the free entertainment at Summer in the Square or head to the 7th annual NYC Kids Fest for the one of the city's most exciting multicultural arts festivals. Imaginations Come to Life: A favorite storybook character, Clifford the Big Red Dog, invites you to attend his beach party for dancing, hula-hoop tricks, and a game of limbo. Elsewhere, a Pirate Festival calls for treasure hunts, costume contests, and more. Plus, use your imagination and literally step into famous works of art at Framed: Step into Art. Scroll down for the latest news in parenting, how-to articles, and where-to guides in your neighborhood. Happy Father's Day!
